Why Standing Seam Roofers in Texas Use SnapTable PRO®

When you’re working on a massive standing seam metal roofing installation, efficient panel preparation is one of the keys to keeping the project moving swiftly and under budget. That’s why it really pays when you bring a tool like the SnapTable PRO to your job. In addition to saving your team valuable time on metal roofing panel preparation, the SnapTable PRO is also incredibly user-friendly and requires only one person to operate.

In this article, you’ll learn about a team of standing seam roofers in Texas who used the SnapTable PRO to streamline metal panel preparation for one high school’s 233,000-square-foot roof replacement project.

“No one had any idea how bad it was.”

When school board officials at Roma High School in Roma, Texas began exploring options to address the school’s leaky tile roof (which, at that point, was more than 25 years old) they initially thought they would just need a roof replacement.

However, a thorough evaluation by Dallas-based building envelope consulting firm, Amtech Solutions, Inc., revealed that it was more than the roof that needed addressing. Due to leaks caused by the roof’s improper water diversion management, water was permeating into the school building’s walls and causing widespread deterioration.

“When you see water running down the wall, immediately you think the problems were only with the roofing,” said Amtech Solutions’ Mike Hovar in Roofing magazine. “Once we got a closer look, it wasn’t just the roof, but the walls, the drainage over the walls. No one had any idea how bad it was.”

With this discovery, what was originally supposed to be a routine roof replacement became a large-scale building restoration project that had to be carried out in three phases. In the first phase, the school’s deteriorating walls and windows were restored. In the second phase, the new roof was installed. In the final phase, drainage and grading had to be improved on the campus grounds. Let’s zero in on phase two’s roof replacement.

Installing Roma High School’s Standing Seam Metal Roofing System

When the time came for school board officials to decide on the type of roof they wanted, they opted for a standing seam metal roof from McElroy Metals because it was more cost-effective than a tile roof.

To install the new McElroy metal roofing system, Roma High School hired Rio Roofing, a roofing contractor company based in Harlingen, Texas that specializes in low-slope and metal roof installations for large-scale commercial projects. The Rio Roofing team removed the old tile roof and installed more than 233,000 square feet of metal roofing on Roma High’s main school building, gymnasium, art building, and industrial arts buildings.

Standing Seam Roofers Streamlined Panel Preparation with SnapTable PRO

To hem and notch the standing seam panels, Rio Roofing used a Swenson Shear SnapTable PRO — a user-friendly standing seam roofing tool that makes quick work of panel preparation. After preparing the panels with the SnapTable PRO, they were carefully lifted up to the roof for installation using a forklift equipped with a special cradle.

The decision to invest in a SnapTable PRO allowed Rio Roofing to maximize their time and labor on the job and ultimately pay off the initial investment in the tool by the time the Roma High School job concluded.

“We purchased a SnapTable PRO from Swenson Shear to cut panels we installed in the valleys and to notch the panels,” Hedley Hitchens, Vice President of Rio Roofing, explains. “We easily got our money’s worth out of that thing on this job alone.”

Any of Rio Roofing’s future jobs that use the SnapTable PRO will immediately add to the company’s profits.
